Nursing Practice (DNP) - Online Program
Overview
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program prepares students to be eligible for work in leadership and administration or as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). The DNP program is a practice-based doctorate and is one of two terminal degrees in the nursing field. This program is based on the Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Practice developed by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) required competencies with a special emphasis on interprofessional team building. The DNP is a fully online program through the School of Nursing.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the doctoral program, prospective candidates must first meet all requirements for graduate admission to UT Rio Grande Valley, as well as the other requirements listed below:
- Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a recognized international equivalent in a similar or related field.
- Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0.
- Official transcripts from each institution attended.
- Personal statement detailing professional goals and reasons for pursuing the graduate degree.
- Two-three letters of recommendation from professional or academic sources using a standard reference form.
- Verified successful completion of a course in basic statistics.
- RN license in Texas or Compact state.
- Post-master’s students must also have a master’s degree in nursing in an advanced practice area (NP, CNS, CNM, CRNA).
