BIOL 5424 Advanced Microbial Ecology
An in-depth study of the diversity of microbes found in nature. Emphasis is placed on the ecological significance of bacterial communities found in terrestrial, aquatic and extreme environments, as well as their metabolic activities, interactions and survival strategies. Microbial bioremediation and biogeochemistry are also addressed. Students will develop and conduct an independent research project as a requirement of the course.
