Program Overview

The 100% online UTRGV Master of Science in Engineering Management program is designed to prepare future leaders in engineering management, focusing on skills needed in planning, organization, leadership, control in production, research and services organizations. Through this program, students are provided an opportunity to strengthen their technological education and acquire the skills to manage and lead engineers and engineering systems.

Engineering Management is a broad field and can cover a wide range of technical and managerial topics such as: Leadership and Organization Management, Operations Research; and Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Quality Management and Decision Science, and Industrial Cost Systems.

No matter what is your end goal, the UTRGV Master of Science in Engineering Management program provides modern learning modules designed to provide you the opportunity to be the engineering leader.

Program Goals:

  1. Develop engineering management skills in planning, organization, and control of engineering projects and engineering systems.
  2. Design, develop and evaluate engineering systems and models using technical methods and approaches, to improve business performance measures.
  3. Apply theories and tools in quality management to enhance performance of an organization.
  4. Develop fundamental skills in negotiations, marketing, decision analysis and risk assessment for effective engineering management.
  5. Evaluate and apply engineering leadership skills when advancing into management roles.
  6. Evaluate economic and financial structures, and their implications to the engineering systems.
  7. Enhance efficiency of resource utilization through optimization algorithms and lean models to support engineering operations.
  8. Develop material requirement planning (MRP) including inventory models, dispatching and scheduling, material planning and forecasting.
  9. Conduct research, analyze, and write technical reports or publications in their chosen area of Engineering Management.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the graduate program in engineering management, prospective candidates must first meet all requirements for graduate admission to UT Rio Grande Valley, as well as the other requirements listed below:

  1. GRE General Test. GRE test scores are valid for 5 years. A waiver of the GRE requirement will be granted to applicants who show proof of completing a graduate degree (master’s or doctoral).
  2. Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, computer science, or business.
  3. Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 in the last 60 semester credit hours.
  4. Letter of Intent detailing professional goals and reasons for pursuing the graduate degree.
  5. Resume.
