MASC 6335 Chicanx/Latinx Langauge and Identity
In this course, students will examine how language, identity and power interplay in different communities and in particular the U.S/Mexican borderlands. Students will analyze the experiences, languages and knowledges (or ways of knowing) associated with the language/linguistic repertoire of communities who use translanguaging and/or hybrid forms of communication in their everyday practices as ways to rethink the deficit perpectives associated with Chicanx/Latinx communities. Students will also learn ways to work with translanguaging communities in their respective fields.
