PSCI 5302 Mathematical Methods for STEM Professionals
This course will provide students with a solid background in the mathematical techniques and operations commonly used in physical sciences and engineering and their applications to a variety of physical systems. The main focus will be on differential equations and variational principles. Topics may include Coordinate systems, infinite series, complex algebra, differential equations, Fourier Series, Vector Spaces, Operators and Matrices, Multivariate Calculus, Numerical Analysis, Tensors, Fourier Analysis, and Calculus of Variations. In addition, students will be introduced to commonly used mathematical software in physics and astronomy research (e.g. MATLAB, TK Solver, GNU octave, etc.)
