Overview

The Master of Global Commerce degree from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is a 30 credit-hour program. This program designed to train professionals to connect across national borders, create global partnerships and improve supply chain resilience. It is targeted at emerging professionals pursuing career advancement in the supply chain management sector and mid to senior-level professionals seeking additional training and knowledge to meet the fast-changing global commerce and supply chain management landscape. This degree is grounded within the context of a broader understanding of the global and cultural implications and the sustainability challenges of a shifting world. Those who complete this program will also be awarded a Certificate of International Sustainability Management. The program is certified by Quality Matters for high quality course delivery.


Throughout the curriculum, students will learn sustainable methods of planning raw material & products to improve customer service levels while reducing inventory, moving raw material and products internationally, understand how globalization impacts business operations, examine the law governing international sales and minimize the risks inherent in global commerce. Courses such as Global Procurement, International Supply Chain Management, and  International Trade are just some of the topics graduates will master after completing the program.

Fully accredited by AACSB International, the MS in Global Commerce program from UTRGV gives students the training and knowledge to work effectively with professionals from different cultural backgrounds and expand their global mindset and systems skills with a diverse curriculum full of relevant and innovative sustainable global commerce strategies. 

This program is only offered in an accelerated format and is 100% online.

The program was approved by Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to change the name to Global Trade Management (MS) effective June 1, 2023. 

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the graduate program, prospective candidates must first meet all requirements for graduate admission to UT Rio Grande Valley, as well as the other requirements listed below:

  1. Undergrad GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 semester credit hours.
  2. GMAT Exam or the GRE Exam.

A waiver of the GMAT/GRE requirement will be granted to applicants who show proof of one of the following:

  • An undergraduate GPA of 3.25 or higher on a 4 point scale.
  • At least five years of relevant work experience.
  • Professional certifications in customs and brokerage related programs.

Progression Requirements

Three C Rule

A student who earns three C’s in the MS in Global Commerce Program will be placed on suspension and is ineligible to continue. The student may appeal the suspension to the MSGC Committee.

"F" Rule

A student who receives a grade of F will be automatically dismissed from the MS in Global Commerce Program. The student may appeal the dismissal from the MS in Global Commerce Program to the MSGC Committee.
