FMED 9535 Sub-I: Family Medicine

The Family Medicine Sub-Internship is a four-week competency-based clerkship through which students will actively participate in the care of hospitalized and ambulatory patients. Students will be exposed to the full spectrum of care provided by Family Physicians and will be given the opportunity to treat a broad variety of medical conditions. Students will assume an expanded level of clinical responsibility for evaluation and management, consistent with an acting intern. Students will participate as a member of an interprofessional care team and will work effectively to facilitate optimal care of their patients in any setting. Students will be exposed to, and have the opportunity to participate in, a variety of procedures commonly performed by Family Physicians. This rotation emphasizes system-based practice, patient centered communication, caring for vulnerable populations, and professionalism. Students are expected to practice high quality care prioritizing patient safety, evidence based care, cost-effective and development of individualized to patient plans.

Prerequisite: Completion of MS3 curriculum.
