ANTH 4377 Global Cultural Heritage Issues and Debates

What is cultural heritage? How is heritage defined throughout the worked today and how has this changed over time? Is heritage a human right? Who has the right to claim and control heritage resources? This class will address these questions, and so many more, through an interdisciplinary approach to global cultural heritage issues. Students will learn about diverse heritage practices including the identification, assessment, research, preservation, interpretation, and promotion of various forms of cultural heritage. Students will also be introduced to international and national cultural heritage regulations, laws, and policies. Ultimately, students will be asked to think locally, about heritage identification, commemoration, and interpretation here in the Valley.
