MUSI 1308 Music History and Literature I

A historical survey of Western musical traditions from Antiquity to the mid-18th century. The course will include a study of styles and genres, and will place emphasis on listening, formal structure, and musical analysis. The course is also designed to increase the students' critical thinking skills and ability to write effectively about the aesthetics of Western Music. 2nd of 4 courses in Music History, Literature and Culture sequence for majors. Meets the requirements for the Creative Arts in the General Education Core.
