EEMS 6370 Descriptive Physical Oceanography

This course examines descriptive physical oceanography with applications to marine ecology and predictions of the effects of climate change on the physics of the oceans. Topics to be covered include physical properties of seawater, distributions of water characteristics and forcing, observational and data analysis methods, waves, tides, currents, and global circulation patterns. These topics are fundamental to our understanding of ocean dynamics, the interactions between the abiotic and biotic marine components, and the effects of climate change on marine ecosystems, among others.
