Interdisciplinary Studies with a Concentration in English (MAIS)
Overview
The Master of Art in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Concentration in English may choose a program of study within the English department of literature, linguistics, rhetoric, composition, and literacy. This program offers students an opportunity to discover more about the world they live in, learn to appreciate the artistic works of fellow human beings, and develop literary and language aptitudes of their own. The program prepares students for any profession requiring a high degree of skill and comprehension in oral and written communication.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the MAIS program in English, prospective candidates must first meet all requirements for graduate admission to UT Rio Grande Valley, as well as the other requirements listed below:
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a recognized international equivalent in English or a minimum of 12 upper‐level undergraduate hours in English or related field.
- Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 in the last 60 semester credit hours.
- GRE General Test. GRE test scores are valid for 5 years. A waiver of the GRE requirement will be granted to applicants who show proof of completing a graduate degree (master’s or doctoral). GRE School Code: 6570.
- Writing sample, a written academic paper suitable for an upper-division course
