NLGY 9315 Neurology Elective

The neurology elective is designed to give the student experience in both hospitalized and ambulatory patients, as well as exposure to common imaging, procedures, and physiological testing for neurology patients. The student is assigned to two weeks of outpatient clinic and two weeks of inpatient service. During the inpatient portion of the elective, students may have exposure to neurointerventional procedures and will participate in the care of noncritical patients. The student is expected to independently complete all assigned patient care duties, oral presentations, progress notes and assigned learning opportunities. The goal of the neurology elective is to provide students with the fundamental skills required by all physicians to recognize, diagnose and formulate an initial treatment plan for patients with common neurological disorders. All students enrolled must successfully pass the standardized Clinical Neurology Subject Examination administered by the National Board of Medical Examiners® (NBME) at the end of this course for successful completion.
