PMIM 9113 Emergency Medicine / Critical Care Clerkship

The student will either participate in a four-week Emergency Medicine or Critical Care rotation.

During the Emergency Medicine rotation, students will work alongside emergency physicians and staff to gain experience in providing emergency care to patients of all ages. This rotation will expose the student to the diagnostic, therapeutic, and procedural skills required for the management of acute illness and injury. Students will develop skills in the rapid assessment of undifferentiated patients.

Students in the Critical Care rotation will participate in the treatment of critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Units. Students will be involved in daily rounds and duties will include interviewing patients when possible, performing physical examinations, formulating a care plan and reviewing laboratory and diagnostic studies. Students will work with medical students, residents and critical care physicians. This rotations will also allow the student to experience multidisciplinary cooperation among different health professionals including nurses, dietitians, respiratory therapists and pharmacists.
