POPH 9301 Strengthening Statistical Literacy 1
Building on the foundation of medical statistics introduced in the HSS and Research courses during their pre-clerkship years, this elective course provides a practical, hands-on approach to data collection and analysis, focusing on the skills necessary to formulate and test hypotheses during clinical rotations. Through workshops and theoretical sessions, students will learn to apply various statistical tools (e.g., t-tests, ANOVA, regression, chi-square tests) to analyze real-world medical data, preparing them to conduct independent research and present their findings effectively. The learning environment will utilize statistical tools essential for translating broad medical research into practical, local healthcare solutions. The learning process will involve using statistical software for data analysis and leveraging real-world data reflective of community-specific health issues. Artificial intelligence tools will be used to develop scripts for analyzing data sets.
