Message from the Dean

It is a profound honor to serve as dean of The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine, the leader of academic medicine in our community.
Our mission is to educate the next generation of physicians, scientists and healthcare leaders who will transform healthcare in the Rio Grande Valley and beyond. Guided by our five pillars — Education, Clinical Care, Discovery, Leadership and Service — we are committed to advancing medical education, driving scientific discovery and delivering high-quality, patient-centered care while developing compassionate physicians and servant leaders dedicated to improving lives.
Since welcoming our inaugural class in 2016, the UTRGV School of Medicine has grown into an institution that is strengthening access to healthcare, expanding research and preparing physicians who serve communities across the Rio Grande Valley, Texas and the nation. More than 300 physicians have graduated from our program, and as we celebrate our 10th anniversary, the establishment of an Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society chapter reflects our institution's continued growth, academic excellence, and commitment to developing the next generation of physician leaders.
Everything we do is centered on improving lives through education, research, patient care and service. It is a privilege to work alongside exceptional faculty, staff, students, residents and community partners as we build a healthier future for our region and beyond.
V's up!
Sincerely,
Everardo Cobos, MD, FACP
Dean, UTRGV School of Medicine
