MASC 1102 Community: Relationships and Leadership
This course focuses on the study of community leadership through the values of relationship. Through the experiential component students will practice and explore community ideas, values, and beliefs as demonstrated through cultural expressions and privilege those values in the human experience by and about Mexican Americans and Latina/is. In the context of the course content the focus will be on the exploration of ideas that raise artistic and rational creation on order to understand the human condition across cultures. Utilizing the unique values of the place in which we find this university (borderland/frontera) we will use and value stories for the purpose of enriching relationships. As we do so we will identify the assets in this place for the purpose of leading our communities to action. The is framed in the politic, or ethic of behavior, which develops as the practice of leadership develops. The course will involve students in experiential learning situated in community organization to help them reflect on the meanings of community, relationships, and leadership. Students will develop an understanding of leadership with communities.
