MANE 6355 Design for Manufacturing

This course deals with the factors influencing product design and the manufacturing cycle and explores methods to enhance the efficiency of product development and design. Topics include component design and analysis, design for manufacturability, design for manual and automated assembly, and concurrent engineering. Also covers the development of design and production tolerances, 6 sigma methods for tolerancing, and Taguchi's approach to tolerance design. Students learn how to reduce material and parts costs, assembly time, and the number of parts in the product.
