Accelerated Online Programs

ACCELERATED ONLINE PROGRAMS (AOP)- MASTERS LEVEL

Accelerated Online Programs (AOP/AOPs) are defined as online, asynchronous degree or certificate programs of study that offer all coursework through 7-week modules rather than 16-week semesters. The 7-week module format allows students to complete the course requirements for a degree or certificate in a shorter time than possible in a semester-based format. AOPs have an annually rotating course schedule as follows: Fall Module 1, Fall Module 2, Spring Module 1, Spring Module 2, Summer Module 1, and Summer Module 2. AOPs offer three to six different admission dates each year, depending on the degree or certificate.

To be considered a full-time student, AOP students must enroll in at least 6 hours per module. AOP part-time students are those who enroll in at least 3 credits hours, but less than 6 hours per module.

Students cannot pursue two or more degrees concurrently regardless of format, and students cannot enroll in accelerated online classes and semester-based classes concurrently.
Students may change from one program format to the other format once without applying for admission if they are seeking the same degree or certificate. If a student wishes to change formats a second time, they must submit a new graduate admission application and be accepted by the Graduate College and the program. If a student wishes to change majors, they must submit a new graduate admission application and be accepted by the Graduate College and the program, regardless of format.

Students accepted into a University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley’s Accelerated Online Program who meet the FAFSA eligibility requirements can receive financial aid to pay towards their educational expenses. Since AOPs have variable start dates during each term, it is important for students to be aware of their program’s policies and how they affect financial aid processes.
