INTM 9537 Internal Medicine Sub-Internship-KMC

This sub-internship is designed to prepare students for the intense and responsible role of the intern. The sub-intern is an integral member of the team and will actively participate in the work-up and management of patients with critical illnesses under close supervision of the house staff, fellows and faculty. Students will be exposed to the fundamentals of ventilation support, airway management, respiratory and hemodynamic monitoring, stabilization and support of the critically ill patient. Emphasis is placed upon a system approach to patient evaluation and will include didactic sessions with critical care faculty in addition to daily rounds. Students will provide comprehensive patient care from admission to discharge, participate in procedures, and learn about ventilator management.

Prerequisite: Required MS3 rotation.
Approval: Internal Medicine Clerkship Director.
