HIST 3370 Early Middle East History

This course concentrates on the history of the Middle East from the 7th century to 1798. Topics covered include the basic tenets of Islam and its spread up to the 19th century including the Muslim kingdoms of Spain and Africa and the Umayyad, Abbasid, and Ottoman Empires. Islamic approaches to modern concept such as human rights, nationalism, and democracy will also be covered.
