PHYS 4305 Statistical Mechanics

This course explores the development of the macroscopic thermodynamical properties of physical systems from the behavior of their microscopic constituents. Topics include the partition function and its applications: entropy of an ideal gas, Maxwell velocity distributions, and heat capacities of solids. Other topics will include blackbody radiation, Fermi-Dirac, and Bose-Einstein statistics.
