PEDI 9517 General Inpatient Pediatrics Sub-Internship-DCC

The General Inpatient Pediatrics Sub-Internship rotation at Driscoll Children's Hospital allows medical students to develop the skills, attitudes and knowledge that constitute a good foundation in inpatient pediatrics. Involve student actively in patient care and stress the assessment and management of common inpatient childhood conditions. Demonstrate the continuum of care from outpatient-inpatient-outpatient. Clarify which patients require in-hospital care and why. Emphasize the important role of social factors in child’s care. Assist the student in leaning the indications, limitations, and interpretation of laboratory tests and imaging studies. Facilitate the development of a logical and appropriate clinical approach to the care of hospitalized children. Help the student understand how to maintain accurate, timely and legally appropriate medical records. Interact with members of the medial staff and patient’s families as a role model. Demonstrate the appropriate utilization of consultations. Enhance the student’s ability to research the literature and use reference books and manuals in the day to day care of patients.

Prerequisites: Successful completion of MS3 clerkships.
