Engineering Management (MS) - Online Program
Overview
The 100% online UTRGV Master of Science in Engineering Management program is designed to prepare future leaders in engineering management, focusing on skills needed in planning, organization, leadership, control in production, research and services organizations. Through this program, students are provided an opportunity to strengthen their technological education and acquire the skills to manage and lead engineers and engineering systems.
Engineering Management is a broad field and can cover a wide range of technical and managerial topics such as: Leadership and Organization Management, Operations Research; and Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Quality Management and Decision Science, and Industrial Cost Systems.
No matter what is your end goal, the UTRGV Master of Science in Engineering Management program provides modern learning modules designed to provide you the opportunity to be the engineering leader.
This program is 100% online. A traditional version of this program is also available. Students are not allowed to alternate enrollment in online and traditional program courses.
Program Goals
- Develop engineering management skills in planning, organization, and control of engineering projects and engineering systems.
- Design, develop and evaluate engineering systems and models using technical methods and approaches, to improve business performance measures.
- Apply theories and tools in quality management to enhance performance of an organization.
- Develop fundamental skills in negotiations, marketing, decision analysis and risk assessment for effective engineering management.
- Evaluate and apply engineering leadership skills when advancing into management roles.
- Evaluate economic and financial structures, and their implications to the engineering systems.
- Enhance efficiency of resource utilization through optimization algorithms and lean models to support engineering operations.
- Develop material requirement planning (MRP) including inventory models, dispatching and scheduling, material planning and forecasting.
- Conduct research, analyze, and write technical reports or publications in their chosen area of Engineering Management.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the graduate program in engineering management, prospective candidates must first meet all requirements for graduate admission to UT Rio Grande Valley, as well as the other requirements listed below:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, computer science, or business.
- Undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 in the last 60 semester credit hours.
- Letter of Intent detailing professional goals and reasons for pursuing the graduate degree.
- Resume.

Program Requirements
Leveling Courses
Students whose undergraduate major is not manufacturing engineering may be required to take some leveling courses from the list given below with approval of the graduate coordinator or the student's thesis committee. Leveling courses are determined for each student by the graduate coordinator or thesis committee based on the student's course background and experience in manufacturing.

Select three unduplicated courses from graduate courses offered by the College of Engineering and Computer Science, the College of Science, or by the Robert C. Vackar College of Business and Entrepreneurship.
Non-Thesis Option
Prescribed Electives - 6 Hours
Six unduplicated hours from Manufacturing Engineering.
Capstone Requirement
Written report addressing topic in manufacturing engineering showing master’s level work and containing references. Most MANE courses require a technical report that is suitable for satisfying this requirement. Written reports must be submitted to the graduate program coordinator for approval.
