COMM 4332 Principles of Visual Communication and Media Design

This course introduces the foundations of visual communication as they apply to contemporary mass media. Students learn how images, color, typography, and layout work together to shape meaning, influence perception, and support strategic communication goals. Emphasis is placed on design thinking, audience analysis, and ethical message construction across platforms such as social media, advertising, journalism, and public relations. Through lectures, critique, and hands-on projects using industry relevant software, students develop the ability to plan and create visually effective media pieces that are clear, cohesive, and on brand.
