PHIL 4328 Environmental Philosophy

This course will look at the vibrant and growing philosophical literature concerned with the environment. This may include ethical questions such as the nature and extent of human responsibility for the environment, whether nature and the environment are intrinsically or instrumentally valuable, what responsibilities if any we have to future generations, whether entities other than humans have moral rights, and how environmental risks and benefits should be balanced and distributed. It may include ontological questions about concepts like "nature" and "natural," or "sustainability" and "resilience"., It may also include epistemological questions about learning about and in environments, and the different kinds of knowledge people have about their environments.
