SOCW 3363 Crisis Intervention and De-Escalation Techniques

This course equips students with essential skills in crisis intervention and de-escalation, emphasizing effective responses to clients experiencing acute distress or crisis situations. It introduces trauma-informed approaches for engaging both voluntary and involuntary clients, particularly those exhibiting behaviors often perceived as resistance, defensiveness, or avoidance. Emphasis is placed on understanding the impact of trauma and grief on client behavior and responses. Through case studies, role-plays, and practical exercises, the course develops strategies for risk assessment, crisis management, suicide assessment, and collaborative planning with clients.
