SOCW 6361 Domestic Violence in Society

This course will examine the phenomenon of domestic violence. Students will have the opportunity to study the family structure in which violence occurs, the range of abuse (from verbal to homicide), types of abuse and its extent in society, and the various attitudes toward it. Understanding of the basic theories, identification of support services and systems for victims of domestic violence, and development of basic communication skills for assisting the victims will be expected of the student.
