PEDI 9518 Inpatient Pediatrics

MS4 Elective Inpatient Pediatric Rotation: During this rotation, MS-4 students will obtain and perform history and physical exams on pediatric patients (newborn to 18 years of age) at Valley Baptist Brownsville and Valley Regional Hospital under direct supervision of UTRGV's inpatient pediatric hospitalist faculty. Students will participate in multidisciplinary clinical rounds and bedside teaching. Students are expected to give brief presentations on relevant assigned clinical learning topics that will be provided by faculty. Students will submit and be evaluated on both written and oral presentations on patient encounters. Students may assist in follow-up with pending consultations, labs, imaging, pathology, and microbiology studies in order to prepare them for residency program expectations and workload obligations. Students will demonstrate and ability to apply medical knowledge, skills, and clinical evidence within the pediatric patient population while demonstrating patient-centered compassionate care.
