SURG 9539 Neurosurgery VBMC

The Neurosurgery elective is designed to provide students with a broad exposure to the sub-specialty of Neurosurgery which comprehensively manages patients with a variety of ailments such as CNS injuries and critically ill patients, tumors of the brain and spine, movement disorders, cerebrovascular disease, peripheral nerve disorders, and infectious diseases of the CNS system. During the Neurosurgery elective, students will be an integral part of the neurosurgical team and are expected to present patients during rounds, participate in all aspects of patient care, and on-call duties as assigned. The student will have opportunities to scrub in as a first assistant in some operative procedures and will engage in level-appropriate participation for several neurosurgical cases as presented.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of MS3 surgical clerkship, SURG 9110.
