BIET 6345 Health Law and Policy

This course examines the major legal cases and contexts of health policy that define the relationship between patients, providers, populations, and the role of the State. Special attention is given to the relationship between traditional concerns of cost, access, and quality, and concerns of justice and equity in health systems more broadly. Major cases and issues in health law examined include the physician-patient relationship, theories of liability, discrimination and unequal treatment, health insurance and reform, population health, and more. The objective of the course is to provide students with a critical framework to apply, evaluate, and generate solutions to major legal issues of health policy in contemporary debates.
