POLS 4358 American Political Development

A critical overview of the method and concepts of American Political Development. It will examine the historical development of US governmental institutions (the American state) within the context of race, gender, and class inequality. The course will cover the Constitutional Convention and the creation of the federal government, slavery, the Civil War and Reconstruction, industrialization, the labor movement, the growth of federal bureaucracy, the New Deal, the Civil Rights movement, and selected social policies.
