COMM 6335 Communication and Popular Culture
This course examines the origins, functions, and forms of culture, including folk, popular, modern, high, and low traditions. Students analyze cultural artifacts such as art, literature, film, music, architecture, fashion, dance, language, and sports, with attention to historical contexts and technological change. Topics include cultural transformations such as Modernism, roughly from 1900-1920 and the cultural explosions of the 1960s, as well as the impact of digital technologies and online platforms on contemporary culture.
