COMM 6336 Contemporary Issues in Communication

This course examines the role of communication in shaping political, cultural, and economic systems, with emphasis on the contemporary U.S. context. Students trace the historical foundations of political organization and belief systems, including their integration into cultural, legal, and educational institutions. The course addresses major ideologies such as communism and democratic capitalism, the relationship between politics and economics, and the influence of media, public opinion, and strategic communication. Special attention is given to current issues in American political communication, including the press, advertising, culture, and public discourse during election cycles.
