COMM 3361 Digital News Writing

Digital News Writing is designed to develop skills and practice in writing news for digital and multimedia platforms. Through hands-on reporting assignments and story revisions, the course is designed to teach students how to create and adapt scripts for television, websites, social media, podcasts, streaming formats and other emerging technologies. The course provides an in-depth introduction to reporting and writing news for digital platforms. Students will build-on essential journalism skills, including news gathering, interviewing, fact-checking, and writing, engaging stories under deadline. Emphasis is place on AP style, ethical decision-making, and news values, as well as crafting effective headlines and leads for online and mobile audiences. Students learn how digital tools, audience engagement, and multimedia elements shape modern news storytelling.
