SOCW 2362 Social Welfare Institutions

This course examines the historical development, funding, and implementation of social welfare institutions in the United States. Social welfare institutions are defined as organizations that promote social well-being and the general welfare of communities, including nonprofit social service agencies, public health organizations, and civic organizations. The course also addresses the contemporary context of these institutions and explores how social workers engage with, collaborate, and strengthen them. It provides an understanding of the United States social welfare and social safety net systems and examines how social workers have historically and currently contributed to advancing social welfare reform and change.
