MSEN 8304 Non-Destructive Testing of Engineered and Natural Porous Media

Principles and applications of non-destructive evaluation methods and their derivative techniques; emphasizing engineered and natural porous media. The topics covered include the deep description and applications of the most frequently used non-destructive methods (Visual, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Ultrasonic, Radiographic, Electromagnetic, Ground Penetrating Radar, X-ray/neutron, imaging/XRD/XRF, Terahertz Radiation, etc). Study the various conceptual and mathematical models to describe the porous media structure and properties. Establishing accurate non-destructive methods to evaluate the porous media properties. The applications are going to be directed to inspection, flaw and defect detection; material characterization in general, etc., various sectors and systems are included but not limited to Infrastructure, Environmental Engineering, Petrochemical Engineering, and Transportation.
