MEDI 8115 Clinical Skills Year 1
The Clinical Skills (CS) Year 1 course is a supervised practical experience designed to provide medical students the opportunity to learn basic clinical skills. Through this course, students will progressively develop history taking and physical examination (H&P) skills, foundational clinical reasoning, note writing, and patient centered communication. Students will begin to develop their professional identity formation and interpersonal skills in order to provide age, gender, and culturally sensitive patient care at the beginner level. This course will foster a patient-centered approach focused on ethical decision making with respect for empathy, humility, and cultural sensitivity. Bias and prejudice are addressed through the recognition of the impact of health care disparities across age, gender, sexual orientation, race, culture, and socioeconomic status.
