MEDI 8116 Hematology & Oncology

The Hematology and Oncology module will provide students with an in-depth exploration of hematology and oncology, equipping them with knowledge in the diagnosis and pathophysiology of blood disorders and malignancies. Students will be exposed to the hematologic system and oncologic diseases through a combination of lectures, laboratories, problem based learning, interactive sessions and self-study. Key topics include the fundamentals of blood cell formation, clotting mechanisms, and immune responses, as well as the molecular and genetic foundations of cancer. Students will gain skills in identifying and treating a variety of hematologic conditions, including anemias, coagulopathies, and hematologic malignancies, along with solid tumors across different organ systems. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based approaches, diagnostic interpretation, and therapeutic decision-making, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and emerging targeted treatments.
