MECE 6306 Computational Fluid Dynamics

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), covering key computational techniques for solving model equations and the Navier–Stokes equations, with emphasis on finite difference and finite volume methods. Theoretical background on the accuracy and stability of numerical schemes will be provided, along with hands-on coding assignments in which students develop their own CFD codes. Applications focus on incompressible flows in both viscous and inviscid regimes. Students will also learn mesh generation, use the massively parallel spectral Navier–Stokes solver Nek5000, visualize results via ParaView, and run and process simulations on a computer cluster.
