SPSY 6370 Psychological Measurement

This course examines advanced principles of psychological and educational measurement. Topics include scaling methods; variance and score transformations using linear and nonlinear approaches; traditional item analysis and item response theory (IRT/ICC) models; and the partitioning of true-score and measurement-error variance into its different sources. It explores multiple forms of validity: content, predictive, concurrent/diagnostic, and construct/theoretical - and models for unbiased assessment. These concepts are applied to the construction and interpretation of norm-referenced and criterion-referenced measures, as well as survey instruments and observational scales.
