HIST 3356 Special Topics in Historical Perspectives on Race and Ethnicity
This course examines how individuals and groups have understood and expressed their identities across different historical and social contexts, exploring when and why particular identities were emphasized. Topics may include ethnic and religious conflict, multicultural spaces, intersectionality, economic competition, immigration, popular representations, regional contrasts, urban-rural differences, and collective organization. Through these issues, the course analyzes how choices to activate - or not activate - specific identities shaped both individual experiences and the evolution of identity categories themselves. May be repeated for additional credit when topic varies.
