PHTH 8314 Management of Patients with Neuromuscular Disorders II

This course will focus on the examination, evaluation, and interventions of patients with progressive neurologic and neuromuscular disorders (such as Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and degenerative cerebellar conditions). The course will provide the student with an understanding of the pathophysiology and physical therapy management related to these types of neuromuscular disorders. Emphasis will be placed on epidemiologic and etiologic characteristics, injury mechanisms, symptomatology, pathology, and management and prognosis of specific neuromuscular disorders as well as treatment strategies to mitigate functional loss and restore or adapt movement to maximize patient function and independence.
