HGEN 8390 Translational Genetics

This course will examine the pathways by which genetic information and technologies can ultimately be translated into clinical medical care. The course will focus on the concept of genetically informed personalized medicine. It will cover biomarker/endophenotype discovery and development for pinpointing disease risk, genomic- and pedigree-based approaches to individual risk of both simple monogenic and complex human diseases, how genetics plays a role in drug target discovery and target validation, how genetic variation can be incorporated in drug development, and pharmacogenomics.
