This course provides a framework for culturally responsive social work services designed to meet the needs of the Latine community, from multiple geographic locations. Through use of multiple approaches, such as creative literature, film, and social science theory, students will acquire a fundamental understanding of issues of identity, cultural history, and the political and social realities of Latines. Highlighting the inter and intragroup differences and similarities among the Latine community, students will learn about anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion (ADEI). Special attention will be given to the growing phenomena of transnationalism. Students will acquire core principles grounded in an understanding of social justice, privilege, and oppression. These principles will be applied to special topics in clinical practice, social determinants of health (SDOH) and overall well-being, community empowerment, and the development of a public policy agenda.
