SOCW 6355 Trauma Informed Advanced Practice
This course focuses on advanced practice techniques rooted in trauma-informed care, emphasizing the profound impact of trauma on individuals, families, and communities. Students will explore the neurological, biological, psychological, social, and spiritual effects of trauma. Students will develop knowledge of how these factors may have a profound impact on individuals and families, influencing behavior and functioning. The course will cover assessment and intervention strategies that prioritize safety, trustworthiness, and empowerment, equipping students to work effectively with individuals and families. Through case studies, role-plays, and collaborative learning experiences, students will develop skills to create supportive environments and foster resilience in those they serve, while also addressing systemic factors that perpetuate trauma. Students will be exposed to therapeutic modalities such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
