SOCW 6379 Advanced Generalist Field Education II
This course is the second part of a two-semester sequence required of all MSW students completing their Advanced Generalist level field internship. The students complete 250 clock hours in an approved field placement setting. The course combines guided discussion, personal reflection, and peer feedback as a means for students to integrate social work theory, practice, social welfare policy, human behavior in the social environment, and research in real-world experiences. The course uses ethics as a framework for developing practice behavior skills at the Advanced Generalist Level. The students will use supervision and consultation to enhance practice skills. Students are expected to put into practice the techniques and interventions learned in their courses such as administration and community assessments, community engagement, advocacy, referrals, and social work values and ethics skills. The student interns will be able to identify ethical issues and dilemmas associated with anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion (ADEI) with the delivery of services and programs to individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. This course continues the student’s journey to becoming an ethical, culturally responsive, and innovative social worker by developing competencies using reflection and feedback.
